Quick trial after girl murder

Madhepura police on Wednesday set an example by getting an accused in a case of attempted rape and murder of a one-year-old girl punished by the court in 22 working days.

Additional district and sessions judge IV, Madhepura, Y.N. Singh awarded life sentence to Ajay Kumar, a resident of Champa Nagar village under the jurisdiction of Singheshwarsthan police station of the district, for killing a minor after he failed in his attempt to outrage her modesty.

The court awarded life imprisonment to the 23-year-old accused under Section 302 (murder) and seven years and three years imprisonment under Sections 376 (attempt to rape) and 452 (house trespass to cause harm) of the Indian Penal Code. Both the sentence would go concurrently. Madhepura superintendent of police Saurabh Sah said the case had been brought to the logical conclusion in 22 working days. The case was selected for speedy trial and evidences were gathered against the accused, which led to his conviction by the court headed by ADJ (IV).
