Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor on Tuesday constituted a five-member committee to find a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem in the Mithapur locality, and also firmed up plans for a multi-sports cum recreational facility in the area that is home to a number of educational institutions.

The committee will comprise the managing director of Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) and the chief engineers of the Bihar Rajya Jal Parshad, the building construction department, the road construction department and the Patna Municipal Corporation.

'The committee has been given 15 days' time to submit its proposal. Waterlogging has been a perennial problem in the locality during monsoon,' said Kishor.

He also instructed officials to take action against the illegal construction work going on near the local police station. When he was told that private buses stationed on the roads create jam in the area, Kishor issued instructions to make it a no parking zone.

Kishor also asked for a detailed project report for the creation of multi-sports cum recreational facility in the Mithapur Agricultural Farm area.

The divisional commissioner had held a meeting in this regard on August 29 in which it was decided that a multi-sports facility would be created on around 7.5 acres land of the Mithapur Agricultural Farm Area while an all-purpose facility would be set up on around 2 acres of land which would have a utility centre comprising a health centre, ATM kiosk, cooperative store, canteen and two-storey guest house.

'The multi-sports facility would be a boon for the students of all the seven institutions which falls in Mithapur area including NIFT, CNLU, CIMP, AKU, Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University and Ignou,' said Kishor. 'Most of these institutions don't have proper sports facility. So when the multi-sports facility would come up, it would definitely help the students residing in these institutes.'

An indoor hall will be built on the 7.5 acre land which will be equipped with three badminton courts (which can also be converted into basketball courts), athletic track with a football ground, squash court, volleyball and tennis court.

'Right now we only have Patliputra Sports Complex and Moin-ul-Haque stadium facility for the sports enthusiasts. Starting of more sporting facilities will ensure proper training of sportsperson and regular sporting related events,' Kishor said.

He said the 7.5 acre plot would also have a green belt with proper drainage network and smart traffic lights.

The 2-acre plot 'would have a health centre, guest house and a fire station,' he added.
