The Kalchakra ground is all set to be revamped in view of an auspicious puja of Tibetan Buddhists scheduled in January next year.
The 34th Kalchakra puja will be held on January 14-25, 2016, at the ground, around 200m northwest of World heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara.
District magistrate-cum-Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said two heritage gates and a permanent stage at Kalchakra ground would be made to give it a new look that will attract tourists.
Agarwal added that the heritage gate would be made on the pattern of Buddhist theme and architecture.
There will be two gates - one towards eastern and the other one towards southern end of the ground. On both pillars of the gate, life history of Buddha will be depicted in images.
The design of the gate will be similar to the gate of Saanchi stupa. The replica of Kalchakra will also be depicted on the heritage gate, which would be 23ft high. Around Rs 13 lakh will be spent over construction of the gate. Local artists have prepared the design of the gate that will be constructed by Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC). There are plans to develop the heritage sites in Gaya and Bodhgaya, which is part of the heritage city plan. Recently, the Union government has listed Gaya among the 100 heritage cities across the country, where heritage sites have to be developed.
Lakhs of devotees, who are followers of Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, are expected to arrive in Bodhgaya from across the world to participate in the Kalchakra puja.
Apart from the two gates, a permanent stage will also be constructed at Kalchakra ground, Agarwal said.
The Dalai Lama will lead the 12-day 34th Kalchakra initiation. The Kalchakra ground is a heritage space in Bodhgaya where four Kalchakra initiation ceremonies led by the present Dalai Lama has been held.
Of the total 33 Kalchakra initiation ceremonies organised across the world, the Dalai Lama has led the spiritual event of Buddhists four times at this ground in 1974, 1985, 2003 and 2012.
In fact, the ground was renamed "Kalchakra ground" after the 1974 puja. More than two lakh devotees from different parts of the world had participated in the Kalchakra puja in 2012.
Apart from Kalchakra puja, the annual Bodh Mahotsava, started in 1998, is being organised at this ground.
