Patna: The sweeper molested the Class II student of Holy Cross International School in Danapur last Wednesday, the education department's probe has found.
The education department probe committee probing has submitted its report to department principal secretary R.K. Mahajan.
The report says the girl was indeed molested by the school sweeper, The Telegraph has learnt.
"Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (Pocso), the statement given by the victim is very important," pointed out Patna district education officer (DEO) Jyoti Kumar, who headed the probe committee. "As the girl has recorded her statement before a lady sub-inspector narrating the incident, the statement of the victim assumes importance."
The DEO also said that the director of the school, B.K. Thakur, had also given a statement in writing about the incident to police.
"His statement, given in writing, will be considered before the court and not his oral statement which he is giving now to gain people's sympathy," Kumar said.
On Sunday, Thakur had claimed that the CCTV camera footage shows that the sweeper did not enter the washroom when the girl was inside.
"We have gone through the CCTV footage but the statement of the girl will be considered in court," said Kumar.
The school director on Sunday had also demanded a CBI probe into the incident, and accused the police and probe agencies of tarnishing his school's image.
He had also said that he had written to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) demanding the CBI probe.
"The school director has written a letter demanding CBI probe. However, I am not the competent person who can order a CBI probe on it, and also in three days," said Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj.
Police sources said the cops are also planning to take action against the director after Monday's incident in which Thakur almost held reporters hostage and allegedly threatened people who had assembled outside the school.
