Patna, Jan. 14: Those who throw caution to the wind while zooming on their bikes on the roads in the state capital need to be cautious now. There is a price on them.
The recently formed anti-rash driving cell is on the job to nab rash bikers. The police headquarters has declared that officers of the cell will be rewarded if they perform well on duty.
“The cell has been delivering results. The men are doing a good job. But we want this to continue. The men who do a good job will be immediately rewarded by the headquarters,” said senior superintendent of police B.S. Meena.
But care has to taken that residents of the capital are not harassed, Meena added.
Therefore, the cell would provide weekly reports to deputy-superintendent of police (law and order) Lalit Mohan Sharma, who is heading the unit. The reports will be reviewed and the functioning of the cell would be decided upon.
“Care has to be taken that people are not harassed. So the monitoring of their actions becomes important,” said Meena.
“The officers of the cell have been asked to prepare weekly reports and submit them to the DSP. We will be monitoring their activities. The reports will be analysed and further course of action will be decided,” Meena said.
The officers of the cell have been directed to be constantly on the move so that they are always active. The six teams of the cell, comprising probationary sub-inspectors, have nabbed more than 200 rash bikers since December 2010.
“The teams need to be on the move constantly. They should not be confined to any particular area. They have been told to spread out and check all areas,” said Meena.
“We want the biker menace to end,” he said.
Police stations have also been asked to check rash bikers. Recently, SK Puri police station collected a fine of Rs 35,000 from eight bikers for overspeeding or driving without helmets and documents.
A quick mobile unit, which provides information about the speeding bikers to the cell, accompanies each team. If a biker escapes a particular check, the other teams deputed on the same stretch are immediately alerted. The minimum fine for rash driving is Rs 1,000.
