Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences is yet to take departmental action against its doctors found running private practice three months ago.

A three-member team of the health department raided private clinics after receiving complaints in the matter. It caught six doctors from orthopedics, gastroenterology and other departments red-handed. IGIMS doctors are entitled to non-practising allowance (around Rs 25,000-Rs 30,000) in addition to their salaries on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, making private practice illegal.

Additional secretary, health, R.P. Ojha said on Wednesday: “IGIMS is an autonomous body. We have provided it details about the raids we conducted. The final decision has to be taken by the administration.”
