Bhagalpur, Oct. 27: Rastrapati Bhavan has released the minute-to-minute itinerary of President Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Vikramshila Buddha Mahavihara next month, raising hope on the ancient university's inclusion to the Buddhist circuit.
Mukerjee will visit Vikramshila - the ancient site of learning built by king Dharma Pala of the Pala dynasty between 750 and 800AD) - on November 26 and 27 on the request of Jharkhand's Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, who hails from Bhawanipur village near the half-excavated ruins.
Dubey said he had earlier requested the President to visit Deoghar-Vikramshila, and Gurudham, linked to spiritual gurus Yogiraj Shyamacharan Lahiri and Bhupendra Nath Sanyal in Banka's Bounsi block. Mukherjee will arrive in Deoghar on November 26 after conducting puja to Lord Baidhyanath before flying to National Thermal Power Corporation's Kahalgaon unit.
On November 27, Mukherjee will visit Vikramshila before flying down to Gurudham in Banka, where his parents were disciples of Sanyal.
Dubey will arrange a public reception for the President at Vikramshila. The Press Club of Eastern Bihar, Bhagalpur, will present a souvenir, "Vikramshila Mahavihara: Kal aur aaj", to depict the history of this varsity and its present status.
