Praise for value education - Gyan Niketan silver jubilee celebrations

Patna, Sept. 9: Silver jubilee celebrations of Gyan Niketan school was organised today at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna.

Governor Devanand Konwar was the chief guest at the cultural programme — Rimjhim ki shaam: Abhibhawakon ke naam – organised on the occasion.

Gyan Niketan principal D.K. Mukherjee welcomed all the guests to the function. He congratulated the teachers and students of the school on completion of 25 years.

School founder and patron Acharya Kishore Kunal said: “Better education should be provided to students coming from remote areas. The school will cater to the needs of society in the future as well.”

On the occasion, Konwar emphasised on imparting values to children, especially spiritual values, along with education. He said: “Gyan Niketan is like Rabindranath Tagore’s Shantiniketan. The students of Gyan Niketan are culturally sound and disciplined. They will do a lot for the society after finishing school. They will guide the society economically, socially and spiritually. The students, however, should not forget that everything has a positive and a negative side. It is up to them, which side they select.”

The cultural programme started with a Saraswati Vandana. Students performed a dance on bam baje damru, nach re mayur. Two children wearing peacock costume danced on the stage, celebrating the monsoon.

The evening’s programme seemed to be a blend of different cultures. A group of students displayed the diversity of India through dance. The group of Roushan Kumar, Abhinash Kumar, Adarsh, Ujjwal Raj, Akshay and friends performed on a medley of Rajasthani and Assamese dance.

Aerobics was also performed at the function. Rohit, Bibhash and group conveyed the message “health is wealth” through their performance. Navneet, Harsh Raj and group performed bhangra before the audience. The students also presented an one-act play in English — Mood Of The Monsoon. The performance was greatly appreciated by the audience.

Junior students of the school also performed at the function. A performance on Barbie dance of Goa won audience’s hearts.

The students also performed on Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.

The programme was co-ordinated by vice-principal Archana Saran. Justice Narbadeshwar Pandey, president of M.V.V. Nyas Jiya Lal Arya and the chairman of Gyan Niketan’s managing committee R.K. Srivastava were also present on the occasion.
