The railways will attach electric engines to trains between Chhapra and Sonepur by the end of September.

“Express and passenger trains will operate in the first phase of the service,” Varanasi divisional railway manager Ajay Vijay Vergi said on Tuesday.

In the second phase, electric engines will be pressed into service to commute passengers between Chhapra and Siwan. “The first phase is expected to be ready by the end of this month,” said Vergi.

At present, trains operate on diesel engines on these routes.
