Patna: A student of Government Polytechnic College at Patliputra Colony is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of an under-construction building at Rajiv Nagar.

The deceased, identified as Uttam Kumar, 22, was living on rent in the house, adjacent to the under-construction building. A few residents of road number 9 at Rajiv Nagar noticed the body of the youth hanging on Sunday morning. The residents informed the Rajiv Nagar police, who reached the spot and took the body in their possession.

Dinkar Ram, a resident of area, said: "We noticed the body when we were taking a morning walk. As soon as the news spread people started mounting up in the area. Many of us thought it could be an act of crime as the boy was living in a nearby flat. So why would he go to an under-construction building to kill himself?"

The residents of the area were scared as they thought it could be murder and criminals might have hanged the body in the building, owned by a certain K.P. Singh, a retired railway commercial clerk. The youth was identified by Singh when he reached the spot after being informed about the incident.

However, the police claimed it is suicide and ruled out the possibility of murder.

Rohan Kumar, the station house officer of Rajiv Nagar police station, said: "It's suicide. A report from the forensic science laboratory stated that the youth committed suicide as there were no injuries on his body."

The police said Uttam was living at a rented house on road number 9 with two friends. The police have detained the duo for interrogation.

The SHO said: "The deceased's friends, who were also his roommates, told us that Uttam was missing since Saturday. He had told them that he was going for some work, but didn't return."

The police have searched the room but no suicide note was found. Uttam hailed from Gaya and was studying at the polytechnic college for the past few years. His family has been informed.
