The state election commission had issued a directive on May 6 to start the Know Your Candidate campaign in every ward within two days, but none of the posters was visible in any Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) area on Wednesday.

“The commission has not started putting up posters or banners giving details of the candidates in each ward as promised on May 6. As I could not see any such poster anywhere in the city, today I spoke to one of the senior officers of the commission, said Dr Ratnesh Chaudhary, Bihar co-ordinator of India Against Corruption.

“The officer told me that the details are being fed into the computers and it would take one or two more days. This shows the sluggish attitude on part of the commission as it does not care about having failed to keep its promise to the voters,” he added

Chaudhary further said as the PMC elections are slated for May 17, the posters would be put up from Thursday. “Voters would get merely six days to notice such posters. This much time is too less. It should ideally have been more than 10 days,” he added.

PMC returning officer Arvind Kumar Tiwari said: “The district election officer is responsible for making the posters. I have been told that the posters are being made and the officials would start pasting them probably from tomorrow.”

Joint election commissioner Ahibhushan Pandey said: “The personnel are busy with setting up of polling centres. But we would ensure that the work starts at the earliest.”

The state election commission on Friday ordered that if any district requires deployment of homeguards for the civic poll, they can be called up for five days.
