Riots case order
Patna: A high court division bench of Justices Samarendra Pratap Singh and K.K. Mandal on Thursday upheld the order of Bhagalpur civil court awarding life imprisonment to eight persons in connection with riots that erupted in Bhagalpur in 1989.
The eight whose life imprisonment was upheld by the high court are - Ramdeo Mandal, Arjun Mandal, Prabhas Mandal, Naresh Mandal, Shivlal Mandal, Saryu Mandal, Thakur Paswan and Kuldip Mandal. The court meanwhile acquitted two persons - Subhash Mandal and Yadu Mandal - for want of evidence. Two other accused - Ramchandra Singh and CHandradeo Mandal - have died while one is said to be absconding.

Patna: A high court division bench of acting Chief Justice I.A. Ansari and justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on Thursday directed the state government to file an affidavit stating that it (state) had handed over the Ambedkar hostel located in Saidpur locality to Patna University.

Chhapra: Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani on Thursday attacked RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Congress, saying one ate the fodder of cattle while the other humiliated Mahatma Gandhi by not allowing the central university at Motihari in his name.

Patna: Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan spokesperson Ajay Kumar on Thursday appealed to the writers to not get indulged in politics and keep Sahitya Akademi away from the politics. He termed returning of Sahitya Akademi awards by several writers "unfortunate".
