Patna, Oct. 24: The state is set to witness a spate of political activities after Chhath, virtually sounding the Assembly poll bugle.
Sights set on the next year’s Assembly elections, several top leaders would embark on political tours wasting no time after the festival season. Some parties would go to the grassroots to consolidate their base.
The first off the block would be the Opposition BJP. It would demonstrate in the district headquarters, highlighting the alleged failures of the JDU government, from the first week of November.
Former chief minister and JDU leader Nitish Kumar would embark on Sampark (contact) Yatra on November 13. It would kick off from West Champaran, the district from where Nitish started all his previous yatras. It would be his first major political programme after the debacle of the JDU in the general election and his resignation from the post of chief minister.
The BJP’s ally — LJP — would organise workers’ meets from November 15. The LJP spokesperson, Ashraf Ansari, said: “The workers’ meet will be held at all the district headquarters. New workers would be inducted into the party and a membership drive would be launched.”
The LJP’s parliamentary board chairman and Jamui MP, Chirag Paswan, would take part in the workers’ meet.
The Sampark Yatra of Nitish and the BJP’s dharnas at the district headquarters against the alleged misrule of the JDU are likely to take the cake of the post-Chhath political activities. The contact programme of the former chief minister would prove if he is as popular as he was before the 2010 Assembly elections. The BJP, on the other hand, would leave no stone unturned to oppose him.
Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said: “The party has planned to stage dharnas at all the district headquarters attacking the JDU government and Nitish on the medicine scam.” Besides Modi, several other senior BJP leaders would be participating in the demonstrations to be held all over the state.
The BJP’s state unit leadership, especially Modi, has been demanding a CBI probe into the medicine scam.
