Patna, Aug. 12: Gaffe in police records has given a “political status” to banned organisation Ranvir Sena.
The organisation of landlords, banned for its involvement in several cases of Dalit massacre in the 1990s, has never taken part in any Assembly polls neither does it have any political past. However, the JD(U) MLA from Tarari, Narendra Kumar Pandey alias Sunil Pandey, has been named as a former legislator of Ranvir Sena in the state police records.
Senior police officers posted at the state police headquarters were shocked to find the Pandey’s name in the weekly confidential report sent by the station house officer (SHO) of Darihat police station in Rohtas district in June this year.
The SHO’s confidential report of June 16 to June 22, 2011 says, “Goh mei karib 35 bigha jamin hai. Ispar dakhal kabja jamane ke liye Ranvir Sena ke purv vidhayak Sunil Pandey avam Goh ke Saravjeet Paswan wagairah ke beech gambhir dunga varsh 2003 mei hua tha. Tab se khet parti hai. Yahan maamla uchch nyayalay mei chal raha hai. Sthiti par satat nigrani rakhi ja rahi hai (A fierce gun-battle had taken place between Ranvir Sena’s former legislator Sunil Pandey and Saravjeet Paswan of Goh over possession of land measuring about 35 bigha in 2003. The land is still barren. The matter is pending in the high court. Police are keeping a close tab on the situation.)
SHO Suresh Kumar Singh sent the report to the office of Rohtas superintendent of police. From there it was forwarded to the state police headquarters on June 25, 2011.
Sources said Rohtas superintendent of police Manu Maharaj was surprised when he went through such a controversial report.
“Is tarah ki report meri nazar se gujri hai (I have gone through such a report),” admitted Maharaj. He, however, refused to divulge more information on the pretext that it was a confidential report and not meant for the media.
The SHO, sources said, had to bear the brunt of his boss. Singh was asked to report to the policelines on June 30. Singh, who often boasted of being close to the powers-that-be, was also served a showcause notice for submitting the controversial report without verifying the fact.
According to police sources, the incident took place between Pandey’s supporters and a group of residents of Goh village on March 29, 2003. Bhag Singh alias Bhaka Singh, a lieutenant of Pandey, who was then MLA from Piro in Bhojpur district, was killed in the exchange of fire.
Bhag was a resident of Belaur village under Udawant Nagar police station in Bhojpur district.
Pandey could not be contacted for his comments.
