Patna, July 18: Fourth-year students of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Patna, returned to the campus on Monday for a final term in college before gearing up for placement interviews.

The students came back after their two-and-half-month summer vacation, which was not as relaxed as the vacations of their friends pursuing general courses at Patna University. They had joined different companies as interns as part of their summer projects.

Now, with the last batch’s placement records in mind — above cent per cent placement of students — the institute has geared up for another placement session with companies slated to visit to recruit fourth year students in the next few days.

Apart from the Indian Navy, companies like ZS Associates, Tata Motors and Directi plan to visit the institute in the coming days.

Last year, too, ZS Associates had come to BIT, Patna, only to recruit one student. This year, ZS Associates has asked the BIT, Patna, students to come down to BIT, Mesra, to sit for placement interviews on July 22.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors will also visit BIT, Patna, for the first time on July 22. Directi, which looks to recruit students with an annual pay package of Rs 7 lakh to 14 lakh, is also set to visit the institute on July 20.

However, today was a day of bonhomie between friends, who were meeting each other after a long gap.

Krishna Das, a fourth-year student of computer science, told The Telegraph: “This year will be crucial year for us, as we need to give more attention to our academics and project works.”

Das, who did his summer training at IIT, Guwahati, has planned to appear at the placement interview for ZS Associates.

Last year, ZS Associates recruited one student at an annual pay package of Rs 7.03 lakh. This year’s fourth-year techies are, however, optimistic that the company will recruit more students.

Raj Kumar, the placement in-charge at BIT, Patna, said: “The institute has reopened today and placement sessions for the final-year students will also begin soon. Tata Motors will visit the institute for the first time this year. We have also planned to send Indian Navy names of select students who are interested to join the navy.”

For last year’s fourth-year students, BIT, Patna, was able to ensure around 131 per cent placement, as 269 jobs were on offer for a total 205 eligible students.

Meanwhile, today being the first day of college after vacations, final year students rushed to register themselves for classes this afternoon.

The institute had ordered that the final-year students had to get registered by today, failing which late fine would be imposed.

Sandeep Kumar, a final-year student of information technology, said: “I reached the institute today, as we have to get registered for the next semester.”

Kumar underwent training from NetTech, an institute that offers training in network management, during the vacation.
