The state government on Wednesday ruled out any payscale for teachers at unaided educational institutions.

The government said it might consider such a provision for the unaided teachers, who at present only get grants, in future.

During the zero hour in the Assembly, RJD’s Dinesh Kumar Singh raised the issue of providing salary, instead of grants, to the teachers of the unaided educational institutions.

Replying on the government’s behalf, the minister in-charge, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, told the lower House that the government has already decided to give them grants under certain criteria.

Advocating the case of the unaided teachers, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui admitted that the state’s economic condition was bad during the RJD’s 15-year regime and that is why his government could not give anything to these agitating teachers. Siddiqui said the JD(U) must fulfil its promise, which the party had made to the unaided teachers in its manifesto during the last Assembly elections.

Terming the Opposition’s demand as untenable, Choudhary took a swipe at the RJD for admitting to its failure to give anything to these unaided teachers.

The minister said: “You (RJD) were giving nothing, but, when we (NDA) came to power, we took a sympathetic view towards the teachers. They have been serving without any pay or remuneration. Hence, the government decided to give grants to the educational institutions under certain criteria.”

Earlier, Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary rejected an adjournment motion moved by RJD’s Abdul Gafoor in this regard.
