Ortho talk
The Central Zone Trauma Update, organised by Global Orthopaedic Forum at a city hotel on Sunday, focused on the different kinds of orthopaedic injuries and their treatment.
Orthopaedic surgeon from Mumbai Taral Nagdal spoke on precautions in case children suffer elbow injuries. "Usually, they start rubbing the elbow for some instant relief but this is wrong," Nagdal said. "Rubbing the elbow ensures that blood clot in the injured part gets ossified (hardened). Elbow mobility decreases in such cases."
He advised children to apply ice on the affected portion to alleviate the pain and swelling.
Mandar Agashey, another orthopaedic surgeon from Mumbai, said if a child is unable to walk after a fall, s/he might have tibial fracture (along the bone below the knee and above the ankle). "An X-ray can determine if it is a tibial fracture," said Agashey.
Global Orthopaedic Forum's secretary Amulya Kumar Singh said the conference was aimed at updating the knowledge and skills of orthopaedic surgeons.
