Special Olympics, Bharat has organised a four-day long National Bocce Championship at which more than 300 differently-abled athletes will participate from 23 different states.
Shivajee, area director of Special Olympics, Bharat said that those qualifying, after the results are declared on August 27, will get a chance to participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games, 2019. Shivajee speaking of the benefits of Bocce, the unique ball sport which originated in Italy, for differently-abled children said: "It provides people with special needs a chance to have social contact." Former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi at the inauguration of the championship on Wednesday, asked the state government to take initiatives to cater to those with special needs, especially for their education.
