All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna on Tuesday felicitated two students - Nikita Surbhi and Rishabh Kumar - who won the recently held national physiology quiz at King George's Medical University-Lucknow.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna on Tuesday felicitated two students - Nikita Surbhi and Rishabh Kumar - who won the recently held national physiology quiz at King George's Medical University-Lucknow.

Seventeen teams from various medical institutions participated in the event. AIIMS-Patna won the competition, followed by the team from AIIMS-Delhi and AIIMS-Jodhpur.

AIIMS-Patna director G.K. Singh attended the event. A book written by the head of the biochemistry department, Sadhna Sharma, was also released.

Asthma talk

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna organised a discussion on asthma on Tuesday.

Head of the pulmonary medicine department at Era Medical College-Lucknow, Rajendra Prasad, talked about risk factors for asthma patients.

"Such patients should avoid dust," he said. "They should also avoid pet animals. Passive smoking is also dangerous for them."

A professor at the Institute of Medical Sciences under Banaras Hindu University, J.K. Samaria, spoke on a patient's approach to severe asthma and AIIMS-Patna doctor Deependra Kumar Rai spoke on inhalation therapy.

"Inhalation therapy is the most effective treatment for the asthma patients," he said. "However, 60 to 80 per cent patients use the therapy in a wrong way. It is advisable to opt for slow inhalation."
