Akhil Bharatiya Pasi Samaj, an organisation of toddy tappers, on Tuesday staged a daylong protest at Gardanibagh against the alleged atrocities on the members of their community and demanded that the state government immediately take steps to check them.

Organisation president Jagdish Chaudhary and other leaders said: "The police is implicating and arresting poor members of our community on false charges. Toddy collection is the livelihood of a majority of our community and it should not be destroyed."

The organisation members also demanded a compensation of Rs 25,000 a month for every family.

Data workshop

The Patna University statistics department on Tuesday organised a national workshop of big data analytics.

Patna University vice-chancellor Y.C. Simhadri inaugurated the workshop. Retired statistics professor of Calcutta University, S.P. Mukherjee, was the chief guest.

Mukherjee said data storage had become a huge task with the advent of social networking sites.
