Run for prohibition
More than 2,500 residents participated in the "run for prohibition" on Sunday to promote liquor ban that was enforced in the state on April 5.
The event was organised by the district administration. The run started from Miller High School and ended at Gandhi Maidan. Senior officials, including divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, new Patna Municipal Corporation commissioner Shirsat Kapil Ashok and Bihar State Beverage Corporation Limited managing director Mithlesh Mishra, took part in the run.
Kishor said the huge participation meant that people were happy with the decision. He also said such programmes would be organised frequently by the district administration and instructed all government schools to launch Prabhat Pheri (early morning rounds) to make people aware of prohibition.
Kishor said the "Run for Prohibition" would be organised in other Nalanda, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas and Kaimur districts on April 17.
Inauguration
Energy department principal secretary Pratyaya Amrit inaugurated Abhilasha Smriti Foundation, a non-government organisation, on Sunday.
The NGO is a brainchild of former additional secretary of general administration department Anand Bihari Prasad. Addressing the audience, Anand said his NGO would work towards women empowerment. Around 100 orphan girls from three city-based orphanages - Nishant, Nari Gunjan and Nai Dharti - participated in the event and gave song and dance performances.
"Most of the NGOs which work towards women empowerment are helping women who are already empowered. It is good that this organisation has pledged to work in this field," said Amrit.
