The 6th Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Conference organised by Jeevak Heart Hospital started on Friday.

Cardiac surgeon Ajit Pradhan said: "Eight out of 1,000 children are born with congenital heart diseases and 25 per cent of them, have huge life risks and need immediate intervention. Surgeries of three children suffering from complex cyanotic congenital heart diseases would be done on Saturday. Kulbhushan Singh Dagar, a doctor with Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi, and I would be doing the surgeries. Besides, two non-surgical cardiac intervention would be done by Manvinder Singh Sachdev of Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, and Alok Kumar of Jeevak Heart Hospital."

Pradhan said free 2D echo colour doppler tests of around 80 children would also be conducted on Saturday.

Around 700 girl students from various government schools took part in a cycle rally on Friday to make people aware about their electoral rights.

The programme was organised by the district administration in which students of Rajkiya Kanya Uchha Vidyalaya, Shastri Nagar, Rajkiya Kanya Uchha Vidyalaya, Gardanibagh and Kamla Nehru Balika Uchha Vidyalaya, Yarpur participated. The cycle rally started from Dakbungalow loundabout.

District magistrate Pratima S. Verma said: "Over the next few days, we are going to organise many such programmes to motivate people for exercising their electoral rights." Additional chief electoral officer R. Laxmanan was also one of the dignitaries present.
