Disaster workshop

A workshop on quake-resistant buidings under way at a

Bihar State Disaster Management Authority has organised a five-day workshop on construction and retrofitting of quake-resistant buildings from May 27 to May 31.

The workshop would evaluate a team of skilled civil engineers, who could be trained in constructing quake-resistant buildings or, in case of an earthquake, retrofitting it from further damage.

The team would be trained to become master trainers. They could train other civil engineers, contractors, expert masons, and government and non-government employees. The participants would be divided into skill-based categories. The best would train others.

A list of topics, a basic summary of the subjects and a presentation were decided upon and sent to faculty members with the names of the candidates.

Art for children

Hirawal painting and theatre workshop for children, conducted by Hirawal in Premchand Rangshala, came to an end on Wednesday.

The secretary of the organisation, Santosh Jha, headed the closing ceremony. Ramesh Chandra Pandey, the most senior member, was the chief guest.

A small play was enacted by the children based on Premchand's famous short story, Idgah, directed by Santosh Jha, was performed.

The theatre workshop was for children from Class VI to X.

The seven-day long workshop, which targeted slum children mostly, was received well by children and the turnout was around fifty.

The painting workshop handled by Dharmendra Sushant was for children up to Class V.

"The experience was enriching," he said.

The children's art was displayed. The ceremony concluded with the certificate distribution.

Parents of these children were overwhelmed . Puja, mother of four-year old Aahan, said: "My son is god-gifted and this painting workshop has been a boon for him.

Summer camp

Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan put up the fourth day of their summer camp on May 27. The camp would continue till June 14.

The fourth day saw kids participating in a makeup workshop. Vinay Kumar - associated with Patna Rangmanch for the last 25 years - was invited to teach the children.

Over 100 kids participated in this workshop.

"Today, kids learnt the basic skills of makeup. They were divided into groups and asked to apply makeup on each other," said Ravi Bhusan, supervisor of the workshop.

Eight hundred kids participated in 14 other activities.

The library of Bihar Bal Bhavan organised a summer camp for the children of four slums. 155 children took part in the different activities held at Rainbow Home. They utilised waste paper to create different art objects.

Other activities included drawing, storytelling, poetry recital and essay writing.
