Residents can now adopt trees under an initiative launched by Tarumitra on Friday.
Around 200 school and college students from St Michael's High School and Patna Women's College among other institutions adopted trees at an event held by the organisation.
Shashi Rekha, the programme-coordinator of Caritas India, an NGO, adopted a butterfly tree. "People who live in apartments don't get much space to plant saplings. So, they should make it a point to adopt trees in their surroundings. This would definitely bring a change in society," she said.
At the event, district education officer Chandrashekhar Kumar spoke on a government programme under which schools are entitled to get money for conducting plantation drives.
Drinking water project
Chief minister Nitish Kumar laid foundation stones of several public health and engineering department (PHED) projects worth Rs 210.75 crore at a function in the city on Friday.
Among the projects were 51 rural drinking water pipe schemes and 173 solar energy mini-drinking water plans. A total of 32 rural drinking water projects and 59 solar energy-run mini drinking water projects were also inaugurated.
Nitish directed officials to ensure timely functioning and execution of the projects. He also directed the start of a call centre to inform villagers about the different projects.
Voters' list revision

The state election department on Friday launched a special summary revision of electoral rolls ahead of the Assembly polls due later this year.
The exercise is aimed at providing voters a last chance to get themselves enrolled on the electoral rolls before publication of the final list on July 31. Two special camps would be set up at all polling booths on May 24 and June 7 for adding and deleting voters' names.
State chief electoral officer Ajay V. Naik said around 70,000 duplicate voters' names have been deleted from the rolls published on January 15.
