The Indian chapter of International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association on Sunday organised a continuing medical education programme on pancreato-biliary diseases.
Manish Mandal, the head of gastrointestinal surgery department of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, said pancreato-biliary diseases included acute and chronic pancreatitis, cancer of pancreas, bile duct stones and others. Calcutta-based gastrointestinal surgeon Partha Patra said: "Acute pancreatitis is mainly caused by alcohol while common bile duct stones is caused by excessive consumption of cold drinks and caffeine products. Ultrasonography, CT scans and blood tests diagnose them."
Delhi-based surgeons Sanjay Negi, Vikram Bhatiya and Ajay Kriplani also spoke at the event. Head of the gastrointestinal surgery department of Patna Medical College and Hospital Vijay Prakash was also present.
Spiritual health
The Bihar chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) organised a seminar on spirituality and human health on Sunday.
Patna High Court Chief Justice L. Narsimha Reddy inaugurated the event. He said: "Spirituality is not only about religion but also about promoting good health."
Twenty-five doctors, who helped the Nepal quake victims, were felicitated along with Ajay Kumar and A.A. Hai.
Classical tribute

Renuka Arts, a Patna-based charitable trust, organised Virasat to pay tribute to old Bollywood singerson Sunday.
Rajendra Kumar (deputy general manager of Bank of Baroda) inaugurated the event. Secretary of Renuka Arts Ranjan Kumar said Virasat served to remind the youth of masterpieces and inculcate in them a love them. "We wish to organise Virasat in colleges all over India ," he said.
Amitabh Srivastava, Nivasan Raman, Pawan Agarwal and Shubh Shri received Virasat Achievement awards for their contribution to this art. Arman Khan of Calcutta, Jwala Rai of Samastipur and Pankaj Pandey of Mokama performed classics.
Hotel anniversary
