The Telegraph Online Published 11.11.11, 12:00 AM

Children’s Day is three days away but the kids are not waiting. Their wishlist is ready. While some want special gifts from elders, others want sponsored trips across the world. For some, though, this is the last opportunity to make the most of the day, as they would pass out of school soon. The Telegraph finds out what its young readers want on their day

Prachi Pandey
Class: XII
Notre Dame Academy

She has celebrated Children’s Day for the past 15 years but for 17-year-old Prachi Pandey, this year would be different. “Being in Class XII this is the last time I would be celebrating Children’s Day. So, I have a special wish this time around. I want a sponsored trip to some exotic places in the world with my friends. And, I want a little more azaadi (freedom) so that I can go to places like CCD and Haldiram’s,” she says. Her wishes do not end here. “I want wrist watches, jeans,

T-shirts, and above all, I want to meet my favourite celebrities, Shah Rukh Khan and Tom Cruise.” Go girl. Make this one memorable!

Insha Jalal
Class XI
St Joseph’s Convent High School

US, UK, Italy… Children’s Day is the best time to demand an all-expenses-paid excursion.

This year, 16-year-old Insha Jalal is in no mood to settle for something little. She wants to tour the world, with friends and for an entire year!

“I wish to take all my friends with me and see the world. It will be a great escape from the chores of daily life. Not only would we visit places like the UK, the USA, but also Italy, Mexico and Philippines. I would not miss any country in any continent. I want to be surrounded by all of my friends. I wish the tour lasts more than a year,” she says.

Ipshita Mitra
Class VIII
Carmel High School

Ra.One is everywhere, in cinemas, magazines, news… But this Children’s Day, 14-year-old Ipshita Sharma wants to grab the Ra.One video game.

“I have a wish this Children’s Day. I love video games but I have never felt the urge for any other game like Ra.One. Imagine, if there was a G.One in real life, how would things have been? I know it is not possible to have such a thing in real life, but with the help of a game, I could imagine myself as the superhero and save everyone’s lives,” she says.

Amara Subul
Class VIII
St Joseph’s Convent High School

Thirteen-year-old Amara Subul wishes to visit the lions and the elephants in the African jungles this Children’s Day.

“I watch channels like Discovery, National Geographic and Animal Planet in which wildlife researchers, like Jeff Corwin and Steve Irwin, display their talents while dealing with dangerous animals. The flora and fauna of African jungles are rich. Come November 14, I want a chance to be in the jungles, enjoy the biodiversity there and explore all that mother nature has on offer,” she says, her eyes bright with anticipation.

Prachi Mahima
Class VIII
Carmel High School

Thirteen-year-old Prachi Mahima does not want to waste the opportunity by asking for “trivial” things. Instead, she wishes to visit Anand Bhavan, the place where Jawaharlal Nehru was born. “I was not lucky enough to be born in the same era as Chacha Nehru but I would love to see where he spent his childhood,” she says. Anand Bhavan is not the only place on her mind. “I also want to visit the Sangam (confluence of Ganga, Jamuna, Saraswati) and other beautiful places in Allahabad, she says.

Ishfa Maryam
Class VI
St Joseph’s Convent High School

Gadgets act like magnets for kids and 11-year-old Ishfa Maryam is no exception to this attraction. “I want to own a laptop. I have a computer but ever since I touched my cousin’s laptop, I just can’t stop thinking about it. I have been saving my pocket money to buy one but the laptop is too expensive for my budget. I wish someone could gift me a laptop.” Others may feel Ishfa is too young to own a laptop, but she is confident: “A laptop will add speed to my life,” she says.
