Patna, March 21: Only 1,832 among 5,160 government schools in the state have computers, education minister Ashok Choudhary said in the Assembly today.
RJD MLA Samir Kumar Mahaseth asked how was the government going to implement online filling of forms for Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) classes X and XII exams when not all schools have computers. The government's decision to introduce online filling of forms following the BSEB result scam and related irregularities have drawn flak from academics and the Opposition who insist Bihar is ill-equipped to digitise the process.
Choudhary was evasive about the number of teachers who are proficient in computers or how many of the machines are functional. He also admitted that there was "some difficulty" in the process.
BJP legislator Anil Singh demanded a review of the list of successful candidates for the post of university lecturers on the basis that the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) had not given the additional five points, as promised in the advertisement issued, to PhD holders.
Choudhary ruled it out, citing that the education department abides by the University Grants Commission guidelines and the advertisement was a "mistake" by junior officials.
Construction of school buildings also came up in the House. MLA Satyendra Prasad Singh said he visited the site where the Sainik School building and teachers' residence are supposed to come up in Gopalganj, but construction is yet to start. Even though Choudhary claimed the construction work was in the final stage, based on Singh's query, Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary asked the minister to look into it.
Inside Council: The Opposition raised the matter of non-payment of compensation to women whose uterus were removed by doctors to claim insurance under a central health scheme few years ago. The Bihar Human Rights Commission identified 703 women whose uterus had unnecessarily been removed and had directed the government to pay each women Rs 2.5 lakh.
The government reduced the amount to Rs 50,000 - neither has that been paid nor has action been taken against 31 erring doctors or closed down nursing homes involved.
