Onion prices dipped in Patna on Friday following the arrival of fresh stocks from Nashik. Its retail price came down to Rs 70-75 per kg from Thursday’s Rs 90-100 for the same quantity.

Parvesh Kumar, a trader at Mithapur Mandi, told The Telegraph: “The wholesale rate of onions is Rs 50-55 per kg on Friday. At retail markets, onions are available for Rs 70-Rs 75 per kg. Prices will come down further in the next few days if there is no rainfall, which causes damage to the standing crop in the field.”

Kumar said: “Ten onion-laden trucks have reached Patna on Friday from Nashik, prompting the dip in its prices.”

While the city heaved a sigh of relief, onion prices continued to be high in several parts of the country. Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Friday again termed the crisis “temporary,” though onion prices have been rising since August.
