Patna: Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor on Wednesday inspected the Riparian Wetland and Riverfront Development Project (RWRDP) under the smart city plan costing Rs 23 crore.

It would be developed from Bans Ghat to Patna Collectorate in which different facilities would be provided to the residents. Kishor on Wednesday visited the starting point at Bans Ghat and end point along with officials concerned.

The situation analysis report or the survey of the project has been completed by Spanish firm Eptisa, which is the project management consultancy of the smart city plan.

"As the situation analysis report has been completed by the firm, soon the detailed project report of the Riparian Wetland and Riverfront Development Project would be completed followed by inviting the tender. So before inviting the tender it was necessary to inspect the area where the project would come up and that's why I am here," Kishor said while inspecting the location at Bans Ghat.

Kishor added that the purpose of his visit was to check whether there was any need to change or add something to the project. It would be developed on the concept of wetland and green area. It has many components like urban parks, medow (wetland zone), public ghats, upper and lower promenade, urban plaza, boardwalk and many more.

"A different platform would be developed for public viewing. A cafeteria and spaces for people to roam around will be part of the project," Kishor said.

The project would be integrated with the Ganga riverfront development project, which too is being looked after by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo). The Ganga riverfront development project is a separate project which intends to develop 20 ghats with civic amenities between Collectorate Ghat and Nauzar Ghat at a cost of Rs 254.52 crore.

The riverfront project entails development of a 6.6km-long and 15ft-wide walkway along 20 ghats in Patna with amenities, including decorative streetlamps, public lavatories, 500 seating benches and green cover.

"The project would be integrated with the BUIDCo project so that the people of Patna can get a comprehensive feel of the riverfront. The BUIDCo project is almost complete and finishing touches are being given. There are a few addition in the BUIDCo project and in the next six to eight months the project would be completed," Kishor said.

In the BUIDCo project, the ghats have been developed on different concepts - every ghat has a different architecture.

"This new riverfront project would be developed on a different pattern and the priority is the wetland and green area. The green area of upper promenade would have variety of roses, trees, shrubs and herbs. The detailed project report would be made in the next two months after which a tender would be floated and then the date of completion would be announced," Kishor said, adding that the entire smart city plan would be completed by 2021.
