KHWAJA JAMAL IN MUZAFFARPUR Published 14.08.13, 12:00 AM

The Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology on Tuesday served showcause notices on six students allegedly involved in outraging the modesty of girls last week.

The institute’s disciplinary committee has sought an explanation from the six accused within 24 hours, latest by 11am on Wednesday. The notice was issued after a probe team submitted a report on Monday afternoon, pleading for strong action against the boys.

Girls from the institute had lodged an FIR on August 10 at Barhampura police station. They named Raj Kumar, Abhinav Kumar, Alok Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Jayant Kumar and Anand Raman as the youths who tried to molest one of them last Thursday evening. The youths are not found at the hostel.

Principal Kumar Surendra, who heads the committee, said: “The committee has given the erring boys 24 hours to furnish their replies in the wake of their alleged involvement in outraging the modesty of girls and an FIR being lodged at the Barhampura police station against them.”

The committee has also sent letters by Speed Post to the respective guardians, seeking their presence on August 21 when it would meet to decide the fate of the six accused.
