Patna, Jan. 10: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today said he had firm belief in the state police and the men-in-uniform would also conduct an impartial investigation in Purnea MLA Rajkishore Keshari’s murder case, as was expected from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Nitish said a reply on the murder case was expected from the CBI soon.
“I have got no doubt when it comes to the capability of Bihar police. They would have done an equally good job and would have conducted impartial investigations in the case, as the CBI will do. But then there were many demands from different sectors about the case being handed over to the CBI. The case needs proper investigation from all angles,” Nitish said.
On Saturday, the state government had recommended that the case be handed over to the CBI.
“They have their own process. Till now, the CBI has not got back to us on this. But then it is expected to happen very soon,” Nitish said.
He said with the opposition demanding proper security for the legislatures, the same had been directed with stress on frisking.
“There are training sessions for the police when it comes to frisking,” he said.
Before this, the state police headquarters has recommended to the state government for an additional securityman in addition to the existing two to be added to the security of each MLA and MLC.
On January 4, MLA Rajkishore Kesri was stabbed to death in broad daylight by Rupam Pathak, a schoolteacher in Purnea who had charged him with rape and sexual exploitation last May.
Ashok, Rupam’s husband, who is a schoolteacher in Imphal, said the couple had decided to withdraw the charges later because of pressure by Keshari’s men.
The police have taken Rupam into custody apart from arresting Navlesh Pathak, the editor of a weekly magazine, on charges of jointly conspiring Keshari’s murder.
Rupam had stated that her main motive was to kill Bipin Rai, Keshari’s personal assistant, as he had allegedly been physically exploiting her repeatedly.
Rupam’s mother, Kumud Mishra, has been claiming that her daughter has been unwell and there was a threat to her life in police custody.
After meeting her daughter on Monday, Kumud said Rupam was not receiving proper treatment in police custody and she needed to be immediately referred to Patna Medical College Hospital.
“She is not well and is not getting satisfactory treatment in the police custody. Moreover, the danger on her life still persists. She needs to be immediately referred to the PMCH for treatment. I appeal the authorities for the same,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Kumar, Rupam’s lawyer, today wrote letters to the director-general of police, the registrar-general at Patna High Court and the chairman of the state human rights commission, stating that his life too was in danger and security be provided to him with immediate effect.
