Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday said the state government cherished the dream of governing villages only through panchayati raj institutions.
Nitish was in Muzaffarpur to address a crowd of panchayati raj institution representatives from local bodies at Muzaffarpur Club and to start the election campaign for JDU nominee for Bihar Legislative Council seat Dinesh Prasad Singh, who is also being backed by the RJD and the Congress.
Nitish said there would be panchayat sarkar bhavans in all village panchayats across the state. He, however, added that the construction of panchayat sarkar bhavan was in the pipeline in several districts to envisage the concept of ruling villages through the panchayati raj institutions.
"There should also be a revenue officer at the panchayat sarkar bhavan to look after the issues pertaining to land among other things. Nitish announced that he had asked the top brass of banking institutions to set up a bank in every village panchayat of the state. The banking officials had agreed. Panchayati raj institution representatives should explore possibilities to accommodate banks in panchayat sarkar bhavans," said the chief minister.
Making a fervent appeal, Nitish called upon the panchayati raj institution representatives to vote in favour of Dinesh Singh.
