Patna, Dec. 16: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today announced construction of a school building and a bridge at Chandan Hed village in Banka district.

Nitish made the promise after inspecting the construction work of Chandan Hed bund during his Seva Yatra in the district. The bund and spillway is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 9.5lakh under rural innovation fund of Nabard.

Officials informed the chief minister that about 100 acres of land would be irrigated once the bund is completed. Among other irrigation facilities, Nitish also promised villagers to dig wells having 20 feet radius under MNREGA.

The chief minister, who is on his three-day yatra to oversee the development work carried out in the district, reiterated the government’s commitment to overall development of the state. He appealed to the people belonging to deprived sections of society to send their children to school.

Referring to the health facilities being provided by the government to schoolchildren, Nitish said 3.4 crore health cards would be distributed so far. He said a special drive would be launched to identify children who are victims of malnutrition.

JD(U)’ s new Rajya Sabha MP Sabir Ali went to Banka to take Nitish’s blessing after being declared elected unopposed on the seat. Ali had vacated the seat after quitting the LJP last month. The LJP had sent him to the Upper House in 2008 and his term was to end in April 2014.
