Patna: The National Investigation Agency is learnt to have detained three suspects for interrogation from Chhapra railway station in Saran, a few hours after the agency filed a chargesheet against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Sheikh Abdul Nayeem in Delhi on Friday.

Acting on a tip off, an NIA team detained three youths when they were roaming in the vicinity of the Chhapra Junction in suspicious manner.

The detainees were stated to be associated with Dhannu Raja and Bedar Bakht, who were earlier arrested by the NIA from Gopalganj early this year.

Sources in the NIA said Bedar Bakht was among the 10 people who were chargesheeted by the investigating agency on Friday for allegedly reviving the activities of the LeT and carrying out major terror attacks. Nayeem had spent a few months in Gopalganj before he was nabbed from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh in November last year.

Saran superintendent of police Hari Kishore Rai said he didn't know of any arrest by the NIA. A police officer posted at Chhapra Government Railway Police station, however, said a central investigating agency picked up three persons from Chhapra and took them to an unknown destination.

Gopalganj in north Bihar, which is close to Uttar Pradesh border, seems to have become a haven for suspected terrorists. In February, Mahfooz Alam was arrested by the NIA from Gopalganj for his alleged connection with LeT operatives. The police headquarters has also asked the superintendent of police to step up vigil on the border.
