Patna, March 24: Three non-governmental organisations, Greenpeace, Sakhi and Nav Jyoti, will together conduct the first social audit of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) in two districts of the state — Madhubani and Saran.

The idea is to assist the review process of the scheme being carried out by the Planning Commission and also recommend changes after the audit is over. The changes may be incorporated in the 12th Five-Year Plan.

Arpana Udupa, campaigner, Greenpeace India, said: “We share the concerns raised by the state government on the RGGVY scheme. Therefore, we invite the state government to see the social audit. This will help it understand the problems plaguing the sch-eme at the grassroots level.”

Udupa said: “Under the social audit, the survey will start by the end of March and also a jansunwai will be held in Madhubani (Jhanjharpur) and Saran in the first week of April. This will be done to get a better picture as the people facing electricity problems will get an opportunity to explain their grievances.”

Suman Singh, secretary, Sakhi, said: “Madhubani is one of the places with maximum electricity problems. The state government should witness the social audit to get a better picture of the district.”
