Patna: Bhoomika Vihar director Shilpi Singh was the only one from Bihar at Canada House on Thursday when a dinner was hosted in honour of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Singh's organisation rescues and rehabilitates trafficking victims. Shilpi, 34, was among the 700 guests invited by the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. Around her were television celebrities, Canadian High Commission officials and foreigners.

Flying back to Patna on Friday, she Shilpi said: "It was a big thing to be invited and I was honoured. I wanted to capture the special moment on camera but couldn't do so because nobody was taking a picture. I felt shy to take a selfie with the Canadian Prime Minister but I am happy that I participated in the event. This shows I am doing something worthwhile."

Shilpi might not have bagged a picture with Trudeau, she did take a picture with TV actor Karanvir Bohra. "He was so sweet to strike a pose with me on my one request. We got clicked outside Canada House," she said.

The NGO director added that she was invited to the dinner for being involved with a Canadian High Commission's project on gender inequality reduction through youth mobilisation in Bihar. Working on it since last year, Shilpi is creating gender youth speakers through the project. "Before this, I got a fellowship from Canadian High Commission. I studied human rights at John Abbott College in Montreal in 2011," said on her invite to the high-profile dinner.
