Schools suspend classes

Patna: Classes up to the fifth grade have been suspended at St Joseph’s Convent School, St Dominic Savio’s School and Mount Carmel because of the prevailing cold wave conditions. decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday. Two other schools — Loyola and Notre Dame Academy — have suspended classes up to the third grade.

Reply sought

Patna: A high court bench comprising Justice T. Meena Kumari and Justice Gopal Prasad on Wednesday directed the state government and Bihar State Sunni Waqf Board to file their reply to a PIL, which raised the issue of illegal constitution of management committee of a mazaar near the court premises.

CAT toppers

Patna: Tarun Kumar of Patna and Papai Chakraborty of Darbhanga scored 99 percentile in the results of Common Admission Test (CAT), which were declared on Wednesday.

HC directive

Patna: A high court bench comprising Justice T. Meena Kumari and Justice Gopal Prasad on Wednesday directed the railway authorities to make an alternative arrangement for the accommodation of Government Railway Police and Railway Police Force personnel at railway junctions across the state.

Centre funds

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday said out of Centre’s share of Rs 7,500 crore under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the state would get Rs 2,145 crore in the current fiscal. Bihar has utilised Rs 1,145 crore that it received as the first instalment.

Safety week

Patna: Bihar State Disaster Management Authority would observe Earthquake Safety Week between January 15 and 21. A state-level workshop on hospital safety, preparedness and mass casualty management would be organised in the state capital on January 18.

Protest

Patna: Students of Patna Collegiate School on Wednesday staged a demonstration against the school authorities on the institute’s premises. They demanded the re-opening of the hostel mess.

Condemn

Patna: General secretary of Bihar Administrative Service Association Sushil Kumar on Wednesday condemned the action of Araria police which handcuffed Gayanand Yadav, former block development officer of Palasi of Araria district.
