Man shot in loot attempt

Patna, Jan. 22: Patna police on Saturday suspected robbery to be the reason behind the murder of Sheonath Das, an employee of a private publication, even after 24 hours of the incident. as, 60, was gunned down by unidentified armed criminals on BM Das Road under Pirbhore police station around 10.15pm on way to Rajendra Nagar Terminal to board a train for Patna City. The police said the assailants intercepted Das near Panch Gharwa on BM Das Road at pistol-point and tried to rob him of his belongings. Das was shot from close range when he reportedly offered resistance.

Protest

Patna: There was ruckus at Patna airport on Saturday as luggage of 15 passengers was not loaded on the IC-409 flight coming from Delhi at 12.30pm. The passengers shouted and demanded action against the officer responsible. When the passengers started creating trouble, the airport authority ensured that their luggage would be brought by the next flight IC-415, which came at 4pm. But then again the luggage of the passengers was not brought and all 15 passengers started shouting at the top their voices.

Escape

Darbhanga: A major theft was averted at Darbhanga branch of Bank of India on Saturday. After the arrival of bank officials, it was detected that the robbery was foiled as fire broke out in the bank. In fact they just about managed to escape.

Seized

Chhapra: Saran police on Saturday unearthed an illegal diesel factory at Jandaapur village in Saran district. Janta Bazaar police station in-charge Anand Bihari said police recovered 25 drums of diesel containing 225 litres each and a tanker containing 1,300 litres were seized and two persons were arrested.

Sentence

Patna: Additional district and sessions judge, Vijay Kumar Jain on Saturday sentenced Chunnu Sharma, a resident of Pandukhi village in Aurangbad district, and Shambhu Sharma, resident of Musi village under police station Tekari in Gaya district, to life imprisonment in connection with the kidnapping of Abhishek and Mohammad Amir, a resident of Bakarganj in Patna in December 2008.
