Patna: Rajbali Das, panchayat secretary of Bishunpurin Vaishali district, was caught red-handed by the vigilance team on Thursday while taking Rs 2,400 as bribe from a complainant Yogendra Rai. he vigilance team also seized Rs 2,04,590 from Das’s possession.

Base shift

Bhagalpur: Activists of All India Student Association have shifted the venue of their agitation to Bhagalpur Station Chowk from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University on Thursday. In Wednesday’s protest, police lodged an FIR against 15 activists for ransacking the university’s administrative block.

Garlic seized

Motihari: About 360kg of Chinese garlic kept in bags in side a jeep was seized by Motihari customs near Ramgarhwa late on Wednesday night.

Amendment

Patna: Patna High Court on Thursday partially allowed gazette notification by the state government issued on August 9, 2008, to bring an amendment to SC/ST Atrocities Act, 1989, which empows officers below the rank of deputy superintendent of police to probe cases lodged under the said act.

Arrest

Patna: A self-styled zonal commander of CPI (Maoist) Siddhanath Ram alias Srinath was arrested from Akauri Gola police station area of Rohtas district on Wednesday. A country-made pistol, three live cartridges and receipts of levy were seized from his possession.

Recovery

Patna: Patna police on Thursday recovered a truck containing goods worth Rs 14 lakh of the Hindustan Level Limited from Hajipur. The truck had started from the Didarganj area the Patna City for Gaya on January 11 but never reached the destination.

Surveillance

Patna: Deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Smita Suman on Thursday toured Darbhanga House under Patna University. The officer, with her team also went to the ghats there looking for couples. The aim of the tour was to look for eve-teasers and other troublemakers.
