State BJP leaders plan rally

Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday convened a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and MLCs to discuss the preparations for the February 5 party rally in which workers from across the state would be felicitated for their extraordinary performance in the Assembly elections. t was decided that both full-time and part-time workers of the party would be felicitated at the rally which would be held at Gandhi Maidan. BJP state unit president C.P. Thakur and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi were present at the meeting.

Rape case

Purnea: A nine-year-old Mahadalit girl was allegedly raped by Phatkan Paswan alias Bona Paswan in Gandhi Nagar village under Kasba police station, 15km from the district headquarters. A case of rape was registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code in Kasba police station on Sunday morning.

Protest

Patna: Members of Patna district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India staged a march on Sunday to register their protest against the caning of villagers by police at Marwan in Muzaffarpur. The villagers were protesting against the setting up of an asbestos factory at Marwan on Saturday when the police resorted to lathicharge.

Function

Patna: Senior journalist Manikant Thakur today underlined the importance of language in journalism. He was speaking at the concluding function of a 12-day training programme on j ournalism organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra. Thakur said: “A person’s language can improve if he or she works towards it. Those not serious about language keep committing mistakes.”

Cricket

Patna: A cricket match between chief secretary eleven versus chief general manager eleven of State Bank of India (SBI) was organised on Sunday at BMP ground. Bihar chief secretary Anup Mukherjee was the captain of chief secretary eleven and chief general manager of SBI Jivan Das Naryan led chief general manager eleven team. Chief secretary eleven scored 184 runs in 20 overs whereas chief general manager eleven were bowled out in 150 runs. Secretary in CM secretariat Chanchal Kumar bagged the best fielder award.
