Verdict in kidnap case

Patna: Additional district and sessions judge VII Vijay Kumar Jain on Wednesday sentenced Nishant Kumar Verma alias Rocky (19), Varun Chandra (18), Vijay Prasad (40) and his wife Kanti Devi (30) to rigorous life imprisonment for kidnapping six-year old schoolboy Shresth Sanjay.he court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each, failing which they would have to undergo an additional year of imprisonment. The kidnappers had demanded Rs 1 crore ransom to release the boy.

Bicycles

Patna: Rohtas police on Wednesday distributed bicycles and torches among 40 youths hailing from over half-a-dozen Maoists-hit villages of the district under the Citizen Security Scheme to promote tourism in the region. Rohtas superintendent of police Vikash Vaibhav said the youths would now work as tourist guides.

Flights

Patna: Air India will restore the old timing of its evening flight (IC 415/416) on Delhi-Patna-Delhi route from February 16. The timing of the flight was changed on December 7 last year due to foggy conditions in Patna. The flight will take off from Delhi at 6pm and reach Patna at 7.30pm. It will take off again from Patna at 8.10pm and reach Delhi at 9.40pm.

Protest

Patna: Students of Arts and Crafts College, Patna, staged a demonstration at the janata darbar of state human resource development (HRD) department on Wednesday, demanding the appointment of teachers for the college. HRD minister P.K. Shahi assured them teachers would soon be appointed.

Club

Patna: Patna High Court judge V.N. Sinha on Wednesday directed that the 135-year old Munger Club would not have to vacate their premises. The government may proceed before the appropriate civil court for necessary action.

Blockade

Patna: An irate mob blocked the Bypass Road and paralysed the traffic on Wednesday in protest against the murder of a teenaged boy Bombom Kumar, who had gone missing from Jaganpura area under the Kankerbagh police station on January 24. His body was recovered on Wednesday.
