Mishap toll rises

Valmikinagar (West Champaran): Over 60 people are feared to have died in Sunday’s bus accident near Gandak western main canal in Nepal. The official toll on Sunday was 39. Sources said 65 bodies have been fished out of the canal so far and 27 others are undergoing treatment at Prithvi Chand Hospital at Nawal Parasi and at Semri public health centre in Nepal.

The bus owners’ association and the administration resolved after a meeting to pay ex gratia of Rs (Nepali) 1.1 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased.

Surrender

Motihari: Two CPI (Maoist) members — Surendra Thakur and Ram Ekbal Bhagat — on Monday laid down arms before East Champaran superintendent of police at Rajepur police station under Pakridayal sub-division.

Robbery

Patna: Jewellery and cash over Rs 2 lakh were stolen from the home of former Bihar joint chief electoral officer Kumar Anshumali at Nehru Nagar in the Patliputra area on Sunday night.

Rainfall

Patna: India Meteorology Department, Patna, has forecast moderate rainfall at most places in the state and heavy shower in the north-eastern districts. Patna is likely to receive less rainfall on Tuesday compared to Monday’s shower.

Flight off

Patna: Jet Airways’ Goa-bound flight S2 401/402, which travels on the route Calcutta-Patna-Calcutta-Bangalore-Goa was cancelled on Monday because of bad weather.

Olympics

Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui, who is also Badminton Association of India vice-president, will travel to the UK as the team leader of Indian badminton squad to the London Olympics, 2012.
