Funds ban on banks

Patna: The state government has decided not to deposit funds in 13 banks because of the poor score they got on the basis of their credit deposit ratio, Kisan Credit Card disbursal and other criteria. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said the decision was taken during a meeting to review the half-yearly achievements of the banks.he excluded financial institutions are Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Vijaya Bank, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ING Vysya Bank, Bombay Mercantile Co-operative Bank and Tapeshwar Urban Co-operative Bank. Modi said: “The banks have been listed as they did not comply with poverty eradication measures.” In the last fiscal, 14 banks were blacklisted.

Murder

Ara: Haigaon village resident Dharichchan Choubey, 65, was allegedly murdered at his home under the jurisdiction of Jagdishpur police station on Saturday night.

Status call

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday said Bihar would continue to demand for the special category from the Centre. While inaugurating a marriage hall on the premises of Darbhanga Mithila University, Nitish said he has recently written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to explain why Bihar deserves the special status.

Blockade

Patna: Residents of several villages blocked Hajipur-Mahua road in Vaishali district demanding the closure of an asbestos factory near Mahua. The traffic was disrupted for about nine hours. The blockade was lifted after sub-divisional officer Jyoti Kumar assured the villagers of considering their demands.

Arrest

Patna: North Mandiri resident Lotha Gope was arrested on Sunday for his alleged involvement in the murder of Varun Kumar, the driver of a sub-divisional officer of Danapur. Gope, an accused in over a dozen cases of loot, dacoity and extortion was absconding, police said.
