Power woes

Patna, Jan. 31: The state today received 800MW from the central sector against the scheduled allocation of 1,834MW after four NTPC units stopped generation in the evening. Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd official said the only relief was that it has been purchasing 300MW from open market, taking the total availability to 1,100MW. He added that 21 cases of power theft were detected in Patna, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur and Lakhisarai and a fine of Rs 21.03 lakh was slapped on the offenders.

Patna: A high court division bench on Thursday asked the state government to file a counter affidavit within six weeks to a PIL seeking improvement in infrastructure and appointment of regular employees at the state-and district-level consumer forums.

Court clerks

Patna: A high court bench of Justice Mihir Kumar Jha on Thursday directed the court administration and the state government to file counter affidavits to a petition seeking direction to fill up vacancies of 2,832 posts of civil court clerks.

House protest

Patna: NGO Aashray Abhiyan staged a protest against the state government on Thursday alleging that it has failed to build houses for the poor under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme.

Tribute

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Choudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser on Thursday paid homage to Bihar’s first chief minister Krishna Sinha on his death anniversary.

Two killed

Sasaram (PTI): Two persons, Rakesh Kumar Rai and Ravi Shankar Rai, were killed on Thursday after their two-wheeler collided with a jeep near Dumra village.

Body found

Patna: Police found the body of an 11-year-old boy, Rahul Kumar, from the Sadaquat Ashram area on Thursday, a day after he went missing. Police said the body of the boy, a student of a basic school, had injury marks on the head. he police added that pieces of bricks with bloodstains were found from the spot. Residents staged a blockade on Digha-Gandhi Maidan road in protest against the incident.

Tender plan

Patna: Power companies of the state would adopt e-tendering and e-procurement system from February 1 to execute projects of more than Rs 25 lakh, a source in the state power holding company said.

Campaign

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Mehboob Ali Kaiser on Thursday held a meeting to review preparations for the February 24 bypoll for the Kalyanpur Assembly seat in Samastipur district.

Death

Muzaffarpur: Around 20 rebels assaulted a farmer, Maheshwar Singh (54), at his home and killed him late on Wednesday night at Shahpurpatti village, said deputy superintendent of police Anuj Kumar.

Music fest

Patna: Cultural organisation Art and Artistes will organise a travelling music festival, in collaboration with a mobile service provider, in Patna on Friday.

Expo

Patna: The agriculture department, in association with Confederation of Indian Industry, will organise Agro Bihar Expo 2013, an agriculture mechanisation exhibition, from February 8-11 in the city.

Child rights

Patna: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Shantha Sinha acknowledged that several complaints related to the Right to Education Act and child abuse were heard over the past two days at a public hearing on child rights at Rabindra Bhavan.

Anna advice

Patna: Anna Hazare advised youths to work towards the betterment of their career, while ensuring their foundation is free from corruption, at an interaction with students of Arcade Business College on Thursday.
