Graft heat on official

Patna: A fresh case has been lodged against Bhagalpur additional collector Jayashree Thakur at the economic offences unit police station in Patna under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. hakur has been accused of abusing her official position for financial gains during her tenure as Banka land acquisition officer.

Drought fight

Patna: The disaster management department on Thursday released its standard operating procedure to fight drought. Principal secretary Vyasji said there are 2,097 boats, 40 fibre reinforced plastic boats, 194 inflatable boats, 59 big nets, 6,955 tents, 830 GPS sets, 6,302 lifejackets, 10 satellite phones and 1.52 lakh polythene sheets. He added that diesel subsidy is being given to combat scanty rain and Rs 90 crore has been distributed in districts.

Bribe cuffs

Patna: State vigilance officials on Thursday trapped two government officials accepting bribes. Block education officer of Tharthari in Nalanda, Birendra Kumar was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from Balwant Kumar, a government schoolteacher. In the other incident, a clerk at Muzaffarpur provident fund office, Suresh Singh was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Ramashray Singh.

Spur repair

Patna: A spur of embankment on Ganga in Bhagalpur got damaged and repair work was started to restore the structure.

Aid for soldiers

Patna: The Congress party would extend financial help to children of the soldiers who were killed on the India-Pakistan border on Tuesday. The party would provide Rs 2 lakh to families of four soldiers who lost lives in the incident.

Criminals held

Patna: Four criminals — Nepali Dom, Rahul alias Raja Manjhi, Rajiv and Sachidanand Prasad — were arrested on Wednesday from the RN Mohalla area under the jurisdiction of the Alamganj police station of Patna City. A country-made pistol, three cartridges, some drugs and jewellery were recovered.

Civic directive

Patna: A high court division bench on Thursday directed Patna Municipal Corporation to file its reply within four weeks on a PIL seeking directions to improve civic amenities at Mauryalok Complex.

Report sought

Patna: A high court division bench directed education department principal secretary to file its reply on a PIL seeking inquiry into construction of primary and middle school buildings for a second time within five years in Aurangabad.

Bank gesture

Patna: Central Bank of India on Thursday donated a water cooler and an almirah to Antarjyoti Netraheen Balika Vidyalaya.
