Hunger strike
• Kahalgaon (Bhagalpur): Vikramshila Nagrik Samity, a Kahalgaon-based voluntary organisation fighting for the cause of the ancient world university Vikramshila Buddha Mahavihara, on Wednesday held chief minister Nitish Kumar and local public representatives responsible for the delay in land acquisition for the proposed central varsity, which is to be named after Vikramshila.
Flood relief
• Patna: BJP president Nityanand Rai on Wednesday flagged off six vehicles carrying flood relief for affected people in north Bihar districts. He urged residents to mobilise more resources for the relief material.
Life term
• Begusarai: A local court on Wednesday awarded life term to six convicts, including Lok Janshakti Party leader Arvind Kumar Singh, for the murder of Rakesh Kumar in Begusarai district on May 4, 2006.
Injured
• Samastipur: Three persons sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire between two groups of people at Belon village in Samastipur district on Wednesday. The injured - Arvind Yadav, Rajaram and Vikas - have been admitted in the sadar hospital.
Liquor haul
Hajipur: The police seized 16 cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor from Haryana in Belsar police station area of Vaishali district on Wednesday. In Arwal, police seized a truckload of food grains to be distributed among people below the poverty line when it was being transported for sale in the open market.
