Several students and parents would be relieved now that the CBSE will conduct the re-examination of All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) on July 25.

Many were in a dilemma over the AIPMT retest since the Supreme Court, on June 15 and 19, directed a retest following allegations of large-scale irregularities in the examination held on May 3 that affected over six lakh students across the country. The apex court has directed the CBSE to conduct fresh entrance test and declare the results by August 17.

Monalisha, a medical aspirant, said: "I know I had done well in my AIPMT exam and could have easily got into a good medical college but the irregularities in examination process disrupted my plan."

Another aspirant, Saurabh Singh, who has taken admission in a coaching institute, said: "I appeared for AIPMT exam but after the result was cancelled, I decided to take admission in a coaching institute for biology, physics and chemistry. I got enough time to prepare for the preliminary exam of medical. I cleared my Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) but did not get the desired institute."

A parent said: "Because of the carelessness of a few people, over thousands of students have to reappear for the exam. What if they fail to do well this time? This is injustice with the students who worked hard and had to take admission in private colleges," said Lokendra Lal, a concerned guardian.

Divya Jha, a medical aspirant, said: "I am happy with the decision because it will be unfair if students who know the answer (if the paper was leaked) clear the exam and others who worked hard not get into a good college."

"In compliance with the Supreme Court order on June 15 and 19, the CBSE has decided to re-conduct the All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Test 2015 on July 25 (Saturday). No fresh applications will be accepted for this examination and it will be a retest only in respect of the candidates who had applied within the stipulated time from December 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015 with the requisite fee," said Joseph Emmanuel, joint secretary, AIPMT.

According to a circular issued by the CBSE on June 25 on its website, students were advised to ensure functioning of their email IDs and cellphone numbers given at the time of submitting their applications to receive updates issued by the board from time to time. "The first counselling shall be held on or before August 28, the second on or before September 4 and the third on or before September 11," the notice stated. The details and updates are on the website www.aipmt.nic.in.
