Patna: Kalpana Kumari from Sheohar has done a hat-trick. She topped the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), topped the Class XII science stream exam conducted by Bihar Board Secondary Examination (BSEB) and has now ranked 72 (unreserved category) in the AIIMS MBBS entrance exam; results were announced on Monday.
Kalpana passed Class 10 from Navodaya Vidyalaya in Sheohar and sat for Class 12 board exam from YKJM College in Tariyani block. Her father Rakesh Mishra is a lecturer at the District Institute of Educational Training in Sitamarhi and mother Mamta Kumari a teacher at the Government Girls' Middle School in Sheohar.
Kalpana secured 99.99 percentile in NEET and scored 86.8 per cent in the Class XII science stream exam conducted by BSEB. She secured 99.98 percentile in the AIIMS entrance exam. Her father Rakesh Mishra said Kalpana was not happy with her AIIMS result as she would not be able to make it to AIIMS-New Delhi. "Only the top 50 rank-holders get into AIIMS-New Delhi," Rakesh said. "Kalpana is not planning to study in any of the other AIIMS. She would rather go by her NEET result and take admission into Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi. She checked with friends and family and found out that after AIIMS-New Delhi, the quality of teaching is best at MAMC."
He said Kalpana was almost sobbing on seeing the AIIMS result. "Same was my situation, as I'd seen her work hard," said Rakesh. Kalpana had prepared for the test at Aakash Institute in Delhi.
Anish Kumar stood 146th (unreserved category) in the AIIMS test. His father is an assistant sub-inspector with the Jharkhand police. He prepared for the exam from Goal Institute in Patna. His NEET rank is 621 and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) rank 272. "I am going to discuss with family and friends on where I should take admission," he said.
City boy Ashish Vaibhav's all-India rank is193 (unreserved category). He is the son of city-based paediatrician S.B. Kumar. "Ashish was very disappointed as he wanted to study at AIIMS-New Delhi," Kumar said. "His NEET rank is 291. He will seek admission in Delhi, Mumbai or Lucknow."
He added: "Ashish have been a bright student from his school days. He passed his tenth from Don Bosco Academy."
