Patna: Rescue teams from the Indian Navy joined the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday to carry out rescue operations in the Ganga for the SUV which plunged into the river last Tuesday (July 31).
But the rescue teams failed to locate the vehicle which broke an iron rod boundary near pillar number 38 of the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and plunged 50ft into the Ganga at a spot which was 40ft deep.
The navy carried out search operation near the bridge and upto 5km towards Didarganj to locate the vehicle. They were equipped with magnetic rings that looked 40ft deep for the vehicle.
Kankarbagh police station and the district administration assisted the navy in the rescue operation. "The navy team carried out rescue operations in the morning, looking for the vehicle near the bridge and then moving 3-4km towards Didarganj," police station house officer (SHO) Ravi Bhushan said. The navy will carry out rescue operations on Friday too.
The NDRF team made use of sonar technique and moved 10km looking for the vehicle.
"The rescue team has carried out rescue operations till Didarganj but failed to recover the vehicle," a senior NDRF official said on condition of anonymity. "It appears that because of high currents, the vehiclemight have moved till Masaurhi. Equipment making use of powerful magnetic power were used to fish out the vehicle but no trace of the vehicle was found."
The Kankarbagh police are yet to get any information about the missing boy.
Kankarbagh police claimed Aadarsh Kumar, son of Bipin Kumar Singh, is missing from July 31 and it is believed that the boy was in the same SUV that plunged into the river on July 31.
"Based on CCTV footage from the spot we have come to know that the SUV that Aadarsh was driving was seen scaling the Gandhi Setu, but the CCTV footage of the spot where the accident is believed to have taken place is not clearly visible," the police officer said.
Kankarbagh police have also interrogated the girl with whom the boy was seen a day before the incident. The girl, a Class VII student and resident of Buddha Colony, had accompanied Aadarsh on a long drive early in the morning of July 30.
But, Aadarsh later dropped the girl at her residence and left for Gandhi Setu. What transpired on that fateful day after that remains a mystery.
