Patna: A lawmaker of the ruling NDA is on the radar of the CBI following interrogation of two suspects, including a former deputy mayor of Muzaffarpur Samir Kumar, in connection with the mysterious disappearance and subsequent murder of a 14-year-old girl Navruna Chakravarty in 2012.

The CBI inquired about the legislator in question during interrogation of a property dealer, Bhushan Jha, and former deputy mayor of Muzaffarpur, Samir Kumar, who were summoned to the Patna office of the investigating agency for questioning. Both Bhushan and Samir are stated to be close to the lawmaker and engaged in land deal.

The interrogators also sought to know from the duo about the involvement of a former MLA of Muzaffarpur district who is learnt to have amassed huge property in and around the district headquarters town through land deals since 2006. Earlier, former deputy chairman of the district board Shah Alam alias Sabbu along with five others was taken on remand for questioning in the case.

"What tumbled out of their interrogation is not known to us. But one thing is sure that the CBI is inching towards cracking the case. The interrogation of the six arrested persons, including former deputy chairperson of district board - Shah Alam alias Shabbu, Shiva Ram hotel owner Abhay Gupta, well-known builder Brajesh Singh, private hospital owner Vikrant alias Vikku Shukla and marble businessman Vineet Agrawal - provided vital clue in the case," said an official under the cover of anonymity on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the CBI had issued notices to six suspects for questioning in the case.

A source in the CBI said Vickrant alias Vikku Shukla, who recently opened a private hospital in the heart of the town, was part of the syndicate of property dealers operating in and around Muzaffarpur town. His connection with a legislator of the district is no secret, the officer revealed.

Sources said Vikku's immovable property at different places in Muzaffarpur was under the surveillance of the economic offences unit (EOU) of the state police. Searches were carried out on the houses of Vikku and his close associate Deepak Singh in Vaishali and Muzaffarpur in October 2012.

Navruna Chakravarty, a Class VII student of a Muzaffarpur-based school, had mysteriously disappeared from her Jawaharlal Road home in at Muzaffarpur on the night of September 18, 2012. Almost a month later, a body of a minor girl was recovered from a drain near Navruna's house during routine cleaning.

The DNA test of the unidentified body confirmed that it was of Navruna Chakravarty. But the matter gained political overtones after the victim's father, Atulya Chakravarty, smelt foul play in the incident.
